Beacon Heights, Northey Road, Bodmin

Recently started on site, 'Beacon Heights' is a development of 93 homes at Northey Road in Bodmin.

The site was previously owned by Cornwall Council (and formerly North Cornwall District Council), who over the past 2 years have helped the tenants of the 60 'Cornish Unit' flats which were on the site to find new accommodation. During this time the selected developers; Devon & Cornwall Housing Association and Westco Properties and JB Leadbitter have worked closely with the Council, the project team and local community to devise a scheme that will see the existing unsuitable properties demolished and replaced by 93 homes including 40 for rent, 20 for New Build HomeBuy (part buy - part rent) and 33 open market sale properties.

The scheme will be delivered by Westco Properties and JB Leadbitter who will also build the affordable homes for Devon & Cornwall Housing Association. Demolition has now been completed and work is underway to deliver the scheme, designed by Trewin Partnership to provide a range of homes, each with their own parking and outside space and set in a contemporary mixed tenure development.

The work carried out by all parties in developing scheme proposals was recently recognised when Trewin Design Partnership, Devon and Cornwall Housing Assocation, Westco Properties, JB Leadbitter and Cornwall Council were presented with a Commendation Award by the Royal Town Planning Institute and South West Planning Aid in their Awards for Community Involvement 2009 in their category of Best practice community involvement in a planning application by a developer.
